Circular and linear dichroism of aggregates of chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b in 3-methylpentane and paraffin oil.

A circular (CD) and linear dichroism (LD) study of the water adducts of the green plant chlorophylls a (Chl a) and b (Chl b) in hydrocarbon solvents 3-methylpentane and paraffin oil is presented. A strong red shift of the Qy-absorption band from 663 to 746 nm (1678 cm−1) is observed as the water adduct of Chl a is formed. The Chl a-water adduct shows a strong, nonconservative CD signal, which is characterized by a positive peak at 748 nm and two negative peaks at 720 and 771 nm. The maximum CD (AL - AR) is only one order of magnitude smaller than the isotropic absorption maximum. We propose that this exceptionally strong signal is the so-called psi-type CD. Political risks: the “red shift” in debt sustainability analysis

Political stability and economic policy uncertainty can be key determinants of sovereign debt dynamics, and we show how they can be incorporated in debt sustainability analysis. We distinguish between short-term ambiguity and long-term uncertainty about political risk factors, and using a combination of narrative scenarios and calibrated probabilistic scenarios we obtain a comprehensive heatmap of high-risk debt dynamics. We use Italy as an interesting case study and demonstrate a “red shift” in the assessment of vulnerabilities when accounting for political risks. Ignoring these risks can lead to excessive optimism and wrong decisions.
Photoelectrochemical evidence of inhomogeneous composition at nm length scale of anodic films on valve metals alloys

Abstract Anodic films of different thickness (∼30 nm and 70 nm) were grown by anodizing sputtering-deposited Ta-19at% Al to different formation voltages. N incorporation into the anodic films was inducing by performing the anodizing process in ammonium containing solutions. Layered anodic films were prepared by a double formation procedure with a first anodizing step in ammonium biborate solution and second anodizing step in borate buffer solution, or vice versa. Toward the understanding of DNA fluorescence: The singlet excimer of cytosine

By using the multiconfigurational second-order perturbation method CASPT2, including corrections for the basis set superposition error, the lowest-singlet excited state of the face-to-face π-stacked cytosine homodimer is revealed to be bound by about half an eV, being the source of an emissive feature consistent with the observed redshifted fluorescence. Recombination processes in unintentionally doped GaTe single crystals

Emission spectra of GaTe single crystals in the range of 1.90–1.38 eV have been analyzed at different temperatures and excitation intensities by photoluminescence, photoluminescence excitation, and selective photoluminescence. A decrease in band gap energy with an increase in temperature was obtained from the redshift of the free exciton recombination peak. The energy of longitudinal optical phonons was found to be 14±1 meV. A value of 1.796±0.001 eV for the band gap at 10 K was determined, and the bound exciton energy was found to be 18±0.3 meV. A new stochastic approach to cumulative weak lensing

We study the weak gravitational lensing effects caused by a stochastic distribution of dark matter halos. We develop a simple approach to calculate the magnification probability distribution function which allows us to easily compute the magnitude bias and dispersion for an arbitrary data sample and a given universe model. As an application we consider the effects of single-mass large-scale cosmic inhomogeneities to the SNe magnitude-redshift relation, and conclude that such structures could bias the PDF enough to affect the extraction of cosmological parameters from the limited size of present-day SNe data samples. A Preliminary Analysis of a New Chandra Observation (ObsID 6148) of Cir X-1

We present the preliminary spectral analysis of a 25 ks long Chandra observation of the peculiar source Cir X–1 near the periastron passage. We estimate more precise coordinates of the source compatible with the optical and radio counterpart coordinates. We detect emission lines associated to Mg XII, Si XIII, Si XIV, S XV, S XVI Ar XVII, Ar XVIII, Ca XIX, Ca XX, Fe XXV, Fe XXVI showing a redshift of 470 km s−1. The more intense emission features at 6.6 keV show a double‐peaked shape that can be modelled with two or three Gaussian lines.
Why the Universe is not a fractal

L'etude du survey des redshifts CfA montre que la distribution des galaxies dans l'Univers obeit a une loi d'echelle sur des echelles de longueur inferieures a environ 5 h −1 Mpc. Cependant, l'Univers n'est pas bien represente par une fractale homogene sur ces echelles. La dependance de la longueur de correlation avec la profondeur des echantillons et la luminosite est etudiee. Une methode basee sur l'arbre maximal est presentee pour determiner la dimension de Hausdorff d'une distribution de points. Cette technique est ensuite appliquee au catalogue CfA

Salmonella antibodies immobilized on ZnO nanostructures surface from liquid solutions, resulted in enhance of ZnO photoluminescence intensity. Biosensor reaction to salmonella antigens caused to decrease of PL intensity for all measured antigen concentrations.
A Three-Dimensional Object Point Process for Detection of Cosmic Filaments

Summary We propose to apply an object point process to delineate filaments of the large scale structure in red shift catalogues automatically. We illustrate the feasibility of the idea on an example of the recent 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey, describe the procedure and characterize the results.
